Dividend is the number being divided into equal groups.
Divisor is the number that is dividing the dividend into groups.
Quotient is answer to a division problem.
6            ÷         3           =        2
Dividend           Divisor         Quotient



Division is repeated subtraction.  6  ÷  3 is the same as:

6-3=3
6-3=0

Now, how many times did we have to subtract 3 to get to the answer of 0?

The answer is 2.

We start with 6.
